Why Exercise During Pregnancy
There are plenty of advantages of exercising when pregnant! Exercise prepares your body for giving birth, helps you to retain muscular tone and structure, helps you to get back in shape after giving birth and gives you the energy to fend off the pregnancy blues.
Medically, exercise will help you to destress and manage pregnancy-related aches and pains. Stretching, for example, eases back pain, walking is known to improve blood circulation, and swimming is an excellent all round exercise, which tones the abdominal muscles.
Is it Safe to Exercise When I'm Pregnant?
It is crucial to seek your doctor’s advice before exercising. Your doctor will be able to guide you on which exercises you should avoid. For women who are expecting more than one baby, for example, doctors generally advise a lot more rest and low intensity workouts. Similarly, if you’ve had a miscarriage in the past or have significant bleeding during the pregnancy, it is not advisable to engage in strenuous activities.
Once you’ve been given a green signal from your doctor, there are a few exercises that you can start right at conception and continue till the third trimester:

- Aquanatal workouts
The most important thing to keep in mind is to not overdo it! Pregnancy is a beautiful time in a woman’s life, and you should enjoy it. Also, you should change your exercise routine during difference stages of pregnancy. Jogging may work for you during your second trimester, but it may become difficult once you hit your eighth month. Therefore, you must seek your doctor’s advice when it comes to exercise.
